So far in the previous couple of articles here on the platform we have:
introduced on course performance hacks,
learned a specific driving range warming up,
gained mobility in our spine,
increased lower body stability.
This time, we dive deep into a "Let all the tension go" routine. By the way, all of these elements are integrated in the online training course Fundamental Routines so make sure to have a look here if these exercises have been valuable to you.
As golfers we need explosive rotational power on the first tee.
On the fairway, we need speed, consistency and strength.
The moment we step into our short game: all shots require balance, accuracy, focus, fluidity and fine motor skills.
On the green, stakes are even higher… worrying about previous holes or feeling pressured during putting, and you can completely forget it.
It’s clear that short game success isn’t going to happen if muscles are tensed and heart rate is high while having many doubting thoughts about our abilities. The body needs to be in a physical state where the parasympathetic nervous system is activated: relaxed yet alert, deep slow breaths, low steady heart rate, fluid movement, sense of being in the moment, a quiet mind, being aware of our surroundings, heightened senses. It’s that particular state olympian athletes embody when they are performing at their best. Artists also experience it, whether that be painting, music, writing, composing or acting. Think of golfers on the green as artists. One look at Phil Mickelson’s magical creative short game and you’ll see exactly what I’m talking about.
Below are the exercises that help develop the activation of the parasympathetic nervous system while strengthening the ability to tap into that calm confident collected state. These exercises are also a perfect cool down: they improve the range of motion in the joints and decrease muscle tightness.
I know you take your performance seriously. That's why you also take recovery as seriously. Bring the focus to low, slow and nose breathing. Let all the tension go. And so, if you have enjoyed the feeling afterwards, check out the online training course Fundamental Routines. That’s why I developed my easily accessible online training for active golfers just like you who want to stay ahead AND play better for longer. To be able to integrate training into busy lifestyles easily was of major importance when I developed it because it increases adherence. You won't be disappointed and I've got a live bonus golfyoga session coming up in January for all the members. I want all golfers to experience the benefits of the best 9 routines with over 2 hours of specific structured exercises that can change their game forever!
I look forward to receiving many stories of how you've turned your game story into a success story in 2021!
